Leadership development is encouraged for all of our VEGgies, so we have programs to support every role and level. From courses covering leadership basics to in-depth training to strengthen leadership skills, if you want to lead the VEG way, we’ll help you get there.

VEG Academy

If you’re a frontline leader looking to strengthen your leadership skills, this program covers all of the important stuff—from emotional intelligence and hospital management to difficult conversations and coaching and development. Through the program’s three courses—Lead Self, Lead Others, and Lead Business—as well as coaching, coursework, and peer-to-peer support via weekly Zoom calls, you’ll be empowered to lead the VEG Way.


  • Who’s Eligible: Medical directors, hospital managers, and nursing managers with no employment time constraint

  • Modality: Hybrid: in-person orientation, virtual courses

  • Location: White Plains Headquarters + virtual

  • Program Length: Six weeks


PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Phase 1: Orientation


The program kicks off with a two-day, in-person orientation at VQ, which consists of sessions focused on various leadership topics, from emotional intelligence to inclusive leadership.


Phase 2: Online learning


VEG leaders participate in a six-week online learning program focused on foundational leadership principles structured around three courses: Lead Self, Lead Others, and Lead Business. Each week is made up of both a group call and online coursework.


Phase 3: Master class series


Taught by VEG experts, the Master Class series allows leaders to deep dive into important leadership topics, such as being a coach, navigating difficult conversations, and growing case volume. Once the series is complete, leaders will have successfully graduated from VEG Academy!

L.E.A.D. Library

A quick and easy way for VEGgies to focus on developing their leadership skills, the L.E.A.D. Library is a collection of 10 to 15-minute courses that will help you grow both personally and professionally. Covering concepts such as emotional intelligence, problem solving, and decision making, you’ll think about your role as a leader in a whole new way.


  • Who’s Eligible: All VEGgies with no employment time constraint

  • Modality: Virtual

  • Program Length: Each elective course takes 10-15 minutes

Basic Leadership Training

Leadership development is encouraged in every role and at every stage of your career at VEG—it’s part of our vision to promote 80% of our leaders from within! For this reason, all VEGgies begin Basic Leadership Training on day one, engaging them in all aspects of leadership education at VEG—from taking courses and observing leaders in their hospitals, to setting goals and meeting with managers to reflect on their growth.


  • Who’s Eligible: Mandatory for all VEGgies

  • Modality: Virtual

  • Program Length: 90 days


PROGRAM OVERIVEW


Day 1: Launch and Foundation


As part of their orientation, VEGgies get an overview of leadership at VEG and the 30/60/90 leadership growth plan. They also gain access to the LEAD Library, a curated collection of training articles, playbooks, and leadership tips.


Day 30: Observe (Theme: Leadership is Everywhere)


VEGgies observe leaders in their hospitals with the goal of identifying behaviors aligned with VEG values and then reflecting on strengths and growth areas they notice. Learning is supported through video training, observation journals, and interaction with team members and managers.


Day 60: Take Action (Theme: Try Something on Your Own)


VEGgies set one small, measurable leadership goal (i.e. coaching a teammate, leading a huddle, presenting an idea) and start practicing what they’ve observed through action. Managers are there for support, helping them break down large goals into tangible steps, and collaboration with other team members is encouraged.


Day 90: Reflect & Connect (Theme: Leadership Check-In)


Through a 30-minute, one-on-one meeting with their manager, VEGgies review what they’ve learned and how they’ve grown, focusing on specific feedback, performance, and goals they’ve set. There is also discussion about how each VEGgie can continue growing, as well as leadership goals for the next 3–6 months.
