EMERGENCY VETS AND URGENT CARE IN Elk Grove, CA

welcome to VEG Elk Grove!

Dr. Katey Wahlen

Medical Director

Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine; University of Minnesota

Dr. Katey Wahlen came to the Sacramento area on a whim several years ago and fell in love with the culture, food and natural beauty. She is originally from New Mexico but her veterinary career has taken her on many adventures. Prior to veterinary school, she worked for the Belize Wildlife and Referral Center; she helped rehabilitate injured parrots, monkeys, large jungle cats as well as manatees injured or orphaned by boats. Her time in Central America with Dr. Isabelle, founder of the wildlife center, changed the trajectory of her life.

Dr. Wahlen is a 2017 graduate of Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine. She completed her clinical training at the University of Minnesota. She then completed a rotating internship at the famous VCA Alameda East Veterinary Hospital in Denver, CO where Animal Planet filmed “Emergency Vets” and “E-Vet Interns”. For the last several years, Dr. Wahlen has been doing overnight emergency work in the Sacramento area. Dr. Wahlen’s primary focus continues to be in emergency medicine with a strong emphasis on emergency surgery.

In her spare time, she enjoys playing the piano (poorly), sewing quilts, rock climbing and hiking. She lives locally with her husband, daughter and crazy Australian Shepherd Ember.

Beyond amazing care. We rushed over here from Del Paso Manor area on a Sunday and they met us at the door. From there, we were informed on everything every step of the way, and our mind was put at ease by the doctors and nurse is helping. It was an expensive visit, but Our baby is worth it and I would recommend this place over any other because I’ve visited several others, I have never been part of Poppy‘s care in the way that we were today. We were present for the ultrasound, IV fluids and her overall checkup. Not only did this keep us at these, but it really helped my animal to feel more comfortable. Staff is excellent facility is excellent. I wish I could give 100 stars.

This is the second time we've brought our baby doggy Amelia to Vet ER VEG, and once again, they were absolutely incredible. We arrived late Wednesday night, and as soon as we walked in, the staff opened the door right away and asked what was going on with our baby. Everything was ready—they wasted no time. I was so worried, but my son stepped in and explained everything to Dr. Raquel Schenoe. She and her wonderful team immediately began caring for Amelia with so much compassion. They truly listened, made us feel comfortable, and understood how emotional and painful the situation was for us. They also gave us excellent advice on how we can help Amelia live a better, healthier life. It meant so much to feel supported during such a stressful time. Thank you for having this amazing place and for your exceptional team. You are all now in our hearts and prayers.

I said goodbye to my beloved dog here, and I can't express enough how compassionate the care team was. It was one of the hardest nights of my life, but their support made all the difference—especially as I was facing financial limitations. They kindly offered a payment plan and told me to just pay what I could in the moment. Later that night, after I got home and was overwhelmed with grief, the veterinarian personally messaged me with his condolences—and told me not to worry about the remaining balance. In the midst of my sorrow, their kindness brought a touch of comfort. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I will forever be grateful for your generosity and compassion. A picture of my baby to show her love ❤️
